John Shank OD FAAO

Dr. John T. Shank was a chemistry major and physics minor at Mount Union College, Ohio State University and Cleveland State University. He taught high school physics until 1967. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1971. Dr. Shank was a member of Phi Theta Epsilon from 1967 until 1971. Receiving his commission in 1969, Dr. Shank began active duty in the Army in 1971 and served at the U.S. Army Hospital at West Point until 1973 and Bassett Army Hospital at Ft. Wainwright from 1973 to 1974. After moving to Kodiak, Alaska in 1974, Dr. Shank began his private practice, Eyecare Excellence.

Dr. Shank is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry since 1980 as well as a member of the American Optometric Association, and Alaska Optometric Association. He was a member of the Alaska Board of Optometry and Vice President of the Alaska Optometric Association. He is past president of the Kodiak Lions Club and a member of Kodiak Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Shank's practice focuses on primary care with an emphasis on total family health care. This Includes: contact lenses, comanagement of refractive surgery and cataract surgery, eye health exams and therapeutics.

		Ann Bezona Ann Bezona has been with Eyecare Excellence and Dr. Shank since 1982. As a teenager, Ann began her career as an Optician working in her father's wholesale optical lab in Montana. She has worked in wholesale as well as the retail side of the business. Ann came to Alaska in 1971 and obtained her Alaska State Dispensing license in 1976. She is a current member of the Opticians Association of Alaska, fellow of the National Academy of Opticianry, and a member of the Optician's Association of America. She was recently appointed by the governor of Alaska to the Board of Dispensing Opticians. Ann is responsible for selecting and ordering all eyewear inventories, special order of patient lenses, dispensing eyewear, and making sure the patients are happy with repairs and adjustments. Ann enjoys bowling in her spare time and volunteers at the Senior Center and Care Center adjusting and repairing senior's eyewear.If you have questions or concerns in regards to your eyewear, please call or email Ann at: annb@eyecareexcellence.com Ann will be leaving kodiak soon. 		Virginia Jimenez Virgie has been with the practice since 2002 and is our office manager and optician. Her knowledge of eyecare and eyewear can only be achieved by hard work and experience. Years of experience have not slowed her down at all performing almost any task necessary in addition to general duties. She is also our contact lens expert, as she is the person to speak concerning contact lenses. In her leisure time, She enjoys spending time with her family. 		Deb Hansen Deb is the Patient Care Coordinator at Eyecare Excellence. She is our "first impression". Always smiling, Deb's warmth and friendly attitute are an appealing difference in this day of impersonal health care. Her goal is to make your office visit a pleasurable experince. She schedules patient appointments and checks patients into the clinic making sure all pertinent information is current. 		Colleen Ford Colleen is our Patient Account Representative. She plays a vital role in ensuring that billing, insurance, and medicare claims are timely, accurate, and compliant with federal, state, and patient privacy regulations. This is not only important for our business, but it also greatly helps our patients when billing and insurance claims are performed in a complete and accurate manner. 		Monica Torgerson Monica is our Optometric Technician. She joined our office September 2008. She assists the doctors by performing preliminary testing, takes medical and eye histories and explains the various tests necessary for a complete and thorough eye examination. Monica will be leaving us in September for the U.S. Air Force. You will be missed Monica.
		Malissa Timpke Malissa is our Optometric Technician. She joined our office November 2008.She assists the doctors by performing preliminary testing, takes medical and eye histories and explains the various tests necessary for a complete and thorough eyee xamination. Malissa instructs patients on the proper insertion and removal of contact lenses as well as the proper care of their lenses. Malissa loves spending time with her dogs and playing basketball.
		Anne Micole Rivera Anne is our Optometric Technician. She is the newest addition to our staff, joining us August 2009. Welcome Anne!
